Summer Tundra Walks

A man in a plaid shirt lays in the tundra and pets multiple sled dogs near Denali National Park

Experience first hand the landscape, sled dogs and the people that call Alaska home on our guided hour-long tundra walk. Learn about life in the Interior as we share seasonal knowledge about the flora and fauna, history of Denali National Park, sled dogs and answer any other questions you’ve been dying to ask a local!

  • $50 per person, 1 hour guided tour at 6:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday). Group sizes are small. We are open to custom tundra walks if you are traveling with a bigger group. Contact us today!

  • We are located 3.5 miles up Stampede Road (if the pavement turns to gravel, you have gone too far) and about 30-minutes north of Denali National Park, right outside of the town of Healy. Your guide will meet you at our designated pull out with a small team of friendly sled dogs waiting for their ear scratches, belly rubs and loose walk. Detailed directions on where to meet will be emailed at booking.

  • What is Tundra?

Tundra is a mostly treeless, undulating landscape that is made up of various ground vegetation. It is underlain with permanently frozen soil and is boggy. Many areas of Denali National Park and Alaska are tundra landscapes.

Do I need my own transportation?

Yes, we do not provide transportation to or from your accommodation. If you have questions about transportation in the area, contact us.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring sturdy footwear. It is possible that your shoes/boots become dirty and wet as we will be walking off trail. Be prepared with layers fit for the weather as this tour goes rain or shine.

How far are we going to walk?

Each tour distance and pace is tailored to the group. Distances are minimal overall but the landscape can be challenging to walk through. In August, we may get stuck at the blueberry patch a few yards out!

    Are the Moon Dogs friendly?

YES! All of our dogs are eager to meet you. The dogs will be free running around us as we learn about life on the tundra. Our dogs are great with kids, and before we embark on our walk you will be given a small bag of dog treats to give the dogs for your, (and their) enjoyment.

Any other questions about the tour? Feel free to contact us.
