At Moon Dog Kennel, dogs are our family and our life. We are an interspecies collective of passion for exploration and movement. We specialize in self-supported expedition travel during the winter months and spend our summers on evening walks in the tundra with people like you! The dogs in our kennel are with us through their entire lives and are not only working dogs but also cross-trained as indoor pets. We have an age range between 1 and 16 years old and a cult of personality.

Meet the Moon Dogs

An Alaskan Husky sled dog related to the Denali Kennels with white and gray markings blue eyes and a big tongue smiling. His name is Puck.
  • Denali Park Kennels

Puck came to us as a puppy from the Denali Park Kennels “Little Switzerland litter.” His original name was Troll, but he quickly told us that he wanted to be a Moon Dog and he selected Puck the moon of Uranus as his name. One of our biggest dogs, Puck joined us on the last Mountaineering freight haul as a 6 month old puppy and gained the nickname Poopy Pants McGee for reasons he is embarrassed to share with you. He is the son of Smokey (Joe Henderson) and Clove (Denali Park Kennels).

  • Famous Bassist Litter

Darcy is the only white dog of our kennel and is one of the fluffiest. She is sweet and snuggly and oh so soft! She enjoys playing tag with her kennel mates on loose runs and is quick to instigate a game of chase. She is the daughter of Puck and Pandora.

  • Famous Bassist Litter

Bootsy is a big boy weighing in at 105 pounds. Although he looks serious with his traditional husky coloring and markings, he never takes himself too seriously. His best friend in the kennel is his brother Mingus. Together they make up the brute squad of our family. He can jump as high as he is tall. He is the son of Puck and Pandora

A dog named Mingus. An Alaska husky sled dog related to the Denali Kennels with white and gray markings and a large tongue stands and smiles
  • Famous Bassist Litter

Mingus is a happy, simple man. He is eager to please, but hasn’t yet come to realize his size. Spacial awareness is not his forte but big goofy kisses are. Mingus is our shadow, always one stride behind asking for an ear scratch or belly rub. He is the Son of Puck and Pandora.

A Dog named Jaco. An Alaskan Husky sled dog related to the Denali Kennels with heterochromatic eyes, brown and tan markings stands and smiles.
  • Famous Bassist Litter

If you need a dog that will warm your feet (and your heart), Jaco is the boy to do so. He LOVES laying on your feet, shoes, socks, spare shoes, empty boots, you name it he’s got his noggin’ laying on it. Jaco has always been a “people” dog and is one of our friendliest. Despite his size, he also makes a great lap dog. In team, he gives 110%. He is the son of Puck and Pandora.

A dog named Paz. An Alaskan Husky sled dog related to the Denali Kennels with heterochromatic eyes and black markings smiles at close range.
  • Famous Bassist Litter

Paz is our youngest leader. She is inquisitive and smart. Often taking time to analyze the situation before deciding what to do. She is patient and quiet, our only dog who doesn’t bark at feeding but instead sits patiently waiting to be fed. She is the daughter of Puck and Pandora.

A dog named Titan. An all black Alaskan Husky sled dog pulling a sled in lead position in a snow covered landscape outside of Denali National Park
  • Saturn Moons Litter

Titan chose to be a leader at 3-weeks-old and has never looked back. He was born with all dominant traits: black coat, brown eyes, black nose, black pads and upright ears. He has a built-in GPS and can put in snow-covered trails or find trails from prior years with ease. Titan is full of excitement for meeting new people. He is the son of Bashir and Basil.

A dog named Atlas. A black and white Alaskan Husky sled dog with merled eyes laying on a brown leather couch
  • Saturn Moons Litter

Atlas is the smoothest trotting dog in our team and has an effortless look to his gait. He is the only dog we have with a curly tail and has also had one singular white whisker for his entire life. Atlas takes his winter work quite seriously but thoroughly enjoys his tundra walks. He is the son of Bashir and Basil.

A dog named Pandora. A black and white Alaska Husky Sled dog with brown eyes sitting and facing the camera in a grassy lawn in Healy Alaska
  • Saturn Moons Litter

Pandora is the mamma bear to our famous bassists litter and has been a surrogate mother for adopted pups that we have taken in over the years. She often has a shocked look and very small but bullet-proof feet for a freight dog. Pandora will often lay in the center of a group of guests asking for a belly rub. She is the daughter of Bashir and Basil.

A dog named Rhea. An Alaskan Husky sled dog with white and black markings and merled eyes runs free in a tundra landscape with Denali National Park in the background.
  • Saturn Moons Litter

Rhea is intense and fierce. She takes life seriously and is no nonsense. Her wild eyes add to her intensity. Her favorite bed to sleep on is out at the cabin with guests, and she is often pawing the air for an ear scratch when you walk by. She is the daughter of Bashir and Basil.

A dog named Kiviuq. A head shot of a black and white Alaskan Husky sled dog with floppy ears and blue eyes with a snowy white background.
  • Saturn Moons Litter

If you are looking for the class clown then scroll no further! Kiviuq is a hoot! With his floppy ears and, at times, cross-eyed, crystal blue eyes he is our biggest goof ball. He is no nonsense in team and pulls to his heart’s content but as soon as the harness comes off he is wiggly and looking for belly scratches. He is the son of Bashir and Basil.

A dog named Calypso. A black Alaskan Husky sled dog with frost on head and back stands in front of an Arctic Oven Pipeline tent in Denali National Park and Preserve.
  • Saturn Moons Litter

Calypso is small and mighty. Weighing in as one of our smallest dogs, she is spunky, spry and full of energy. She has a big personality for a little lady and lets you know when she is around. Calypso has one of the most dense coats in the yard that keeps her warm on campouts and long expeditions. Calypso most closely resembles a fox and goes by “the foxy lady”. She is the daughter of Bashir and Basil.

A dog named Basil. A white tan and grey Alaskan Husky sled dog offers a paw to the observer while sitting in a snowy forest on the edge of Denali National Park
  • Whiskey Litter

Basil is the matriarch of our kennel. We adopted her as a 9-month-old pup, and she is the mother to our Saturn Moons litter. She has also had a "paw" in raising every one of our adopted pups, as she is a natural caregiver. We have even found her gently licking the ears and mouths of adult dogs in the kennel in a motherly act of affection. Basil is the queen bee of the house and is everyone’s best friend. She is the daughter of Nova (Squid Acres Kennel) and Syrah (King).

A dog named Ganymede. A grey and white Alaskan Husky sled dog sits in a grassy lawn
  • Jupiter Moons Litter

Ganymede came to us as an 8-week-old pup from a good friend and neighboring kennel. He is high energy and has double the pizazz compared to any dog we have ever known. He is also our fastest dog, and we once clocked him at over 25 miles an hour. Despite being the smallest male in the yard, his best friends are Mingus and Bootsy (our big boys). Ganymede often hides found treasures in his dog house and likes to steal his neighbor's food bowls at night. He is a sweet boy with a big heart.

A dog named Selawick. A black and white Alaskan Husky sled dog runs in a full lope in a tundra landscape
  • Alaska Wildlife Refuge Litter

Sela is hands down our cutest dog. At 8 weeks old we adopted her from our good friends and neighboring kennel, and she has been a staple of many guest’s experiences ever since. She is our smallest female and is our only dog with Siberian lineage. Sela loves to snuggle and treats each run as her own personal walk.
